Lightweight
Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) is a directory listing of people,
individual's certificates and resources. LDAP allows you to search
for individuals by name, e-mail, phone number, organization,
organizational unit, city or street. The most common search is
to locate names
of individuals and their e-mail addresses. The instructions below
will assist you in setting up your LDAP directory for the GSA
ACES Program.
LDAP:c=us
Open Netscape Communicator 4.X and select "Edit" - "Preferences" - "Mail
and Groups" - "Directory" - "New".
A window as shown below will appear. Type in the following information:

To Search for A Name in The LDAP Directory
Open Netscape Communicator 4.X and select "Edit" - "Search Directory".
The window below will appear.
In
the "Search for items" box enter or scroll
to Navy Acquisition PKI. Select where to search by Name, E-mail,
Phone Number,
Organization, Organizational Unit, City or Street. Enter the
information,
such as the name of a person, in the right hand window or type
* to list all information in the directory. Click "Search".
After you obtain the person's information you will be able
to add the person to your local address book by clicking "Add
to Address Book" at the bottom of the "Search" window.
You may also send a message to a person by clicking on "Compose
Message". An e-mail box will automatically open and
you may write and send your e-mail to the person.
Further Details
LDAP is the proposed open standard protocol for directory services over
TCP network protocol. LDAP can be used to access standalone LDAP directory
services or those supporting the X.500 Standard. This provides a standard
way for Internet clients, applications, and Web servers to access directory
listings of thousands of Internet users
